An original technique is introduced to automatically represent relief using steepness hachure technique. Research results on this subject obtained by several cartographers have been summarized. The author describes in detail the algorithm developed as well as its features and advantages in contrast to analogous. The technique proposed is based on both the classical principles and contemporary technologies and trends in cartography.
