Описывается опыт организации и проведения конкурса профессионального мастерства по геодезии и маркшейдерскому делу "Уральский меридиан" среди студентов колледжей и техникумов. Приводятся примеры конкурсных заданий, рассматриваются проблемные вопросы, связанные
с финансированием и поддержкой министерства образования. Автор предлагает во время конкурса не только выявлять уровень практической подготовки студентов, но и проводить мероприятия по повышению их интереса к будущей профессии.

An experience in organizing and holding professional skill competition in geodesy and mine surveying is described. This competition called "The Uralsky Meridian" is organized for students of colleges and technical schools. Examples of the competition tasks as well as problematic issues related to financing and support of the Ministry of Education are given. The author offers to not only identify the level of students practical training during the competition, but also hold activities to raise their interest in their future profession.
